Our Craftsman
Allen is a master craftsman, and the owner of Al's Custom Millwork. Born in Canada, he spent his youth and young adult life in England. He learned his craft while apprenticing in Leicestershire.
Allen has applied his talent to the creation of custom cabinets and furniture for luxury yachts and to the building of cabinets with custom inlays for merchandising and retail.
His passion for home renovation began in the 1980's when Allen restored and renovated properties for resale. Through this work he became known as one of the finest stair and handrail makers in London.
Allen's true passion is restoring beautiful heritage buildings. He began Al's Custom Millwork with that intention. With all his knowledge, and an excellent team of craftsman, Allen has enjoyed putting some new life into old walls and revitalizing significant pieces of history.
Allen Marlow
"Restoring old buildings, it takes me back to my apprenticeship days of working in England on 500 year old buildings. The smell when I open an old roof, pine or oak, it brings old memories back."
Steve is the Shop Manager. It is up to him to keep everything running smoothly. From machinery setup to sourcing the best materials, he ensures all the custom milling is accurate and produced on time.
Steve is a talented craftsman in his own right, with years of experience as a furniture maker. He has created furniture designs, and custom cabinetry, many of which require the creation of repeatable patterns for commercial use.
His ingenuity is now being put to good use at Al's Custom Millwork, where custom patterns are routinely created, and innovative ideas on restoring elements of historic buildings are brought to fruition.
Steve Hillman
"I'm a happy guy when I'm covered in sawdust and working with the wood. The projects here are very rewarding. The machinery setup requires significant skill, and that challenge is extemely enjoyable."
